🎓 Flight Crew Guidance & Training Recommendations
All flight crews are reminded and instructed as follows:
- Stop Bar = Mandatory StopTreat illuminated stop bars as absolute holding points.DO NOT cross an active stop bar unless:– It is explicitly turned off, and– A valid ATC clearance has been received.
- Enhanced Situational AwarenessPay close attention to aerodrome lighting cues, especially at night or in complex runway/taxiway layouts.Use briefings to discuss known stop bar locations and potential incursion hotspots.
- Normal Visibility ≠ Normal RiskEven in good visibility, do not assume stop bars are inactive or irrelevant. Many airports now use continuous stop bar operation as standard.
- Flight Deck DisciplineEnforce sterile cockpit during taxi.Perform explicit cross-checks between stop bar status and ATC clearance.
- Non-compliance ReportingAny situation involving a stop bar crossing uncertainty or unlit bars during active clearance must be reported via internal Safety Occurrence Report.
- Instructors who identify flight crew trainees with potential to misunderstand or mishandle stop bar proceduresduring training (FSTD or line) shall submit a report to the Safety Manager and HT/CTKI, detailing the observed issue and proposed corrective actions.Early reporting is key to preventing runway incursion scenarios in actual operations.
